Purple Haze – Jimi Hendrix

Mike Fab Gere WPApart from being the title of one of the all time greats, Purple Haze was also the name of an acid tab sold around London in the late 1960s. Both the song and the LSD inspired my short story, originally published as part of an  analogy entitled Creature in the Rose by BeWrite Books in 2004, which is fast becoming almost as rare as it was when first released. Slghtly – to very – soiled copies still appear to be availabe on Amazon. as well as other sites. Occasionally, at incredibly inflated prices to someone, who has yet to receive one damned cent. You can read Purple Haze, the short story, for free on my blog, by clicking onto the illustration. Congratulations to those who may have read it before, or even have bought a copy.

What do you mean you haven’t received a cent? I don’t understand, Bryan. God, it’s just crazy shit to not be paid. I don’t understand how that’s happened.

I don’t understand either. I can judge from the number of book still available, new and used, the book sold a fair few copies. But I have never received any satisfactory account from the publisher of just how many sold. Of course, being one of twenty authors of the short stories in the collection, my portion of royalties would not have amounted to much, perhaps even only enough to put towards buying a few books. But they must amount to something. And, to add insult to injury, I have seen it advertised on the net as being available for up to nearly $100 at one New York store. Other internet outlets often advertise pristine copies at more than $30. So it even has gained some value as a collector´s item. That´s writing for you, the publishers and dealers get the money and we get the heart attacks.
